This urban room and playscape is designed to bring public life to the center of Lowell's historic district. Surrounded by early 19th century textile mills in various states of preservation and decay, the public realm installation and surrounding landscape creates a bounded space for play and a place for reflection upon the relationship between our constructed and natural environments. Window openings and sills constructed of abandoned granite street curbs nod to the hundreds of textile mill windows that surround and look upon the new urban park scape. The project speculates on the ways in which we might find delight, imagination, and moments for reflection upon new nature in our post-industrial world.
The Jackson Street Park is a collaboration with GroundView landscape architects. Construction is expected to be completed in late 2025.
